The municipality of Limassol closed all playgrounds and car parks along the Molos promenade to stop the large crowd of people that was observed on the weekend, CNA reported.
The mayor of Limassol, Nikos Nikolaides, urges the public to comply with the latest distribution instructions for Covid-19.
He said hundreds of people with their families gathered on weekends in the Molos area, so the municipality had to close parking lots and playgrounds.
He also said that earlier on Sunday municipal authorities and police had to intervene to close the market, which is organized every Sunday.
“Unfortunately, many of our fellow citizens do not realize the seriousness of the situation,” he said, again urging the public to avoid public gatherings and “stay home to be healthy.”
Similar measures were also announced on Monday by the municipality of Larnaca, which closed its municipal gardens and parks. There were large crowds of people who did not observe the rule of staying at a distance of 2 meters from each other.
Municipal parking in the Mackenzie area was also closed until further notice.
The management says that all other municipal parks and parking lots will be additionally closed to prevent large crowds.
Finally, he urged the public not to gather in public places and to follow all announced instructions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
